Dr. Karen Kemmis is a Physical Therapist, Registered Nurse and an adjunct professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. She is the Diabetes Care and Education Specialists Team Leader at the Syracuse affiliate of the Joslin Diabetes Center. She earned an Associate’s degree in professional nursing, Bachelor and Doctorate degrees in physical therapy, and a Master’s degree in exercise physiology. She specializes in exercise prescription for people with diabetes, osteoporosis, orthopedic conditions and those with balance and mobility dysfunction. She is a Past-president of the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists, is on the Board of Trustees for the Bone Health & Osteoporosis Foundation, is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and a Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist. Dr. Kemmis has authored articles and chapters on osteoporosis and diabetes and presents to healthcare professionals and those in the general community about exercise for aging adults and those with diabetes, osteoporosis and mobility dysfunction.
